A Weeklong Retreat in the Carmelite Tradition

July 11 – July 16, 2021

The Carmelite tradition began with a small group of Christians coming together  in a valley on Mount Carmel in Israel in the early 1200’s. They were pilgrims who wanted to live on holy ground. It was their way of following Christ.

Life in the valley included an atmosphere of silence and solitude. The hermits came together for Eucharist, dialogue, and, eventually, the prayer of the church and meals. But the fundamental activity was a contemplative attending to God’s loving presence.

This retreat/seminar will reflect the life lived long ago on Mount Carmel, but with additional elements of instruction in the tradition. With the saints of Carmel as our guides, we will explore the origins of Carmel, our living tradition, and the nature of contemplative prayer.
